This list collates the results of the Card Games Tournament I have been running.
The first round had 76 games that I included, plus another 30 games that were added by click at this page users, a total of 106 card games.
I have combined the results of all the rounds by weighting the rounds on the basis of number of and then worked out an overall score for each game over the course of the whole competition.
Where appropriate I've added in comments that were added to the game entries as the tournament went on - unfortunately these are uncredited.
I've also added a comment for each game from someone who rates the game highly, I tried to pick the most informative comment for each game!
I think it is worth producing this best card and board games as the definitive card games geeklist for now.
The original rounds can be seen here: Round 1 106 Entrants : Round 2 The Top 40 : Best card and board games 3 The Top 20 : Round 4 The Top 10 : Round 5 Semi Final, The Top 6 : Round 6 The Final : My list is the top 100, but I've allowed public additions to the list in case you think something has been unfairly missed.
Also see: Round 1: best card and board games Round 2: 112 Round 3: 88 Round 4: 42 Round 5: 54 Round 6: 32 eepers: "I LOVE THIS GAME!
It's hard to find good games I can convince my wife to play, and yet be complex enough in strategy that I can still enjoy it.
Simple rules that allow for a staggering amount of incredibly difficult choices in tactics.
Round 1: 151 Round 2: 134 Round 3: 92 Round 4: 44 Round 5: 64 Round 6: 44 PhantomVortex: "A great, light version of Puerto Rico!
Trying to decide which cards to keep what century board games are which to spend is agonizing, but in that good German-game way.
Puerto Rico seems a bit cumbersome after playing San Juan.
This is a classic, and the great intro-to-'German' card game.
After playing this game with more than 30 people on different occasions, I actually played this with a gamer who didn't like it -- the first one.
It's quite unique in that it plays well with two players up through eight.
It's even better in a group of people you know well, because you can anticipate their actions and plan counter-strategies or, try to.
It's got a nice balance of some strategy and some luck.
Also won a Duel with The Spoils 35-12.
The number of cards allows for extraordinary variety, gameplay is tense, exciting and shock full of gutwrenching decisions.
Various deck styles allowing for aggresive, defensive play, decks bent on locking up the opponent's game or take him out with a well-thought-out combo all contribute to an incredible rich game.
And the higher the level you play at, the better the game gets.
Not for the faint of heart of course.
Round 1: 146 Round 2: 112 Round 3: 70 Round 4: 21 Modern Art was the 1 seed before the competition started.
Perhaps people didn't vote for it as a 'card game' instead of as an 'auction game'?
Universeman: "This game is a total bingo with me.
Stripped down mechanics in a seemingly simple auction game operate on a variety of levels that create a game experience of dazzling richness can complexity.
Some call it cerebral, I call it incredibly compelling.
Requires constant vigilance and reaction to a variety of game conditions.
I love this game.
Players usually try to keep several cards in hand to surprise the adversary later in the game, but soon start to run out of options.
A good balance between luck and strategy.
I am not fond of 2-player-only games, but this ranks among the best!
Wonderful blend of strategy and outguessing your opponent -- do you play the strength of your cards, or your opponent's tendencies?
I've easily played more games of cribbage over the course of my life than any other game.
I enjoy Whist and Poker, too, but this one has more depth than those and much more lightness than Bridge.
I've probably played this more than any other game on the planet.
Have had several groups of regular players and played many, many times in pubs.
I prefer the English rules, where each heart is worth it's point value - so Jack to Ace is worth 11-14.
Having said that, I've played the American version all hearts worth only 1 many times, too.
I usually use the 10 of diamonds, which is worth minus 10 to your score.
That adds a twist, but it's very hard to win!
Decisions at every turn.
What do you pass?
Can you void in a suit?
Can you force another player's cards out?
Can you shoot the Moon?
Poker did extraordinarilly well considering its game ranking.
It would also have been dumped out of the competition in round 1 if not for the Wild Card system of carrying the top losers into the next round.
EyeInSky: "The ultimate card game that never gets old.
It has the perfect balance of luck, strategy, bluffing, speculation, and most imporantly.
There are so many variations and strategies to use depending on the game and the dynamics at the table.
Grade: A+ " Loading.
It's surprisingly nasty, non-gamer friendly, and dependent enough on figuring our your opponents as to not give experienced players too much of an edge.
One of my all-time favorites.
I'm a big fan of both auction mechanics and blind bidding, so it's an unsurprising winner.
It's also simple enough here play with non-gamers but has a lot of clever tactics and the art is beautiful.
Memory skills, teamwork, and bluffing all come together perfectly in Spades.
I played this game exclusively for over 3 years, often 4-5 days a week and still love it.
The only weakness of this game is the need to know your partner well, and the difficulty in finding others to play with who like to play your particular variety of Spades; as many alternative scoring and rule systems exist.
Strangely, I still think one of my favourite parts of this game is the inevitable post-mortem analysis that occurs after every hand is played out where you can playfully rib your partner for a terrible play, mock the competition for a gaffe, or otherwise keep the atmosphere fun and spirited.
A game I enjoy largely because it is both mentally stimulating and automatic at the same time due to repetition.
Many of my friends and I have logged hundreds of games not hands.
There isn't a gathering where it doesn't get played at least once.
As for the game itself.
Ooh, the paranoia, ooh best card and board games misdirections.
Put on the soundtrack to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and have fun.
This is a great game.
Aldaron: "A vexing and deep game of resource management and timing.
For those who enjoy intense puzzle games, where every nuance and gesture counts, and where a single draw or error can completely change the balance of power, St.
Petersburg is about as good as it gets.
Tichu is THE best.
The partnership aspect is definitely the best part, as you try to fit your plans and cards with your partner's hand.
I really like this game.
It takes about one game to figure out how aggressively to bet and play cards, but once you know what's going on, this game is INTENSE.
Plays just as well with 3 as it does with 5, a rare thing.
Hard choices, GREAT interaction, and little downtime make this my current favorite "light" game and my first 10.
I can't find anything wrong with this game!
So simple, yet so evil.
Takes a minute to learn and plays quick, whether with three or the full complement.
I've played so many games now that the purchase has more then paid for itself in good times already.
The theme and strategy is more in depth, and you do not have to depend on other players.
Also, it is only for two player, which is best card and board games benefit because it is increasingly difficult to find larger groups of people.
It brings lite Puerto Rico-like resource management to the 2 player genre.
The game plays fast after both players know the cards, but does not become monotonous, as the variety of cards keeps the games different.
I'm a big fan of simultaneous play games, and this is a great game of psychology, hand management and risk taking.
Round 1: 69 Best card and board games 2: 80 Round 3: 95 Round 4: 57 Round 5: 28 lordkuato: "Surprising depth and variety for such a young TCG.
The art is spectacular for the most part.
The flavor text is witty and very entertaining.
The game itself I have absolutely no complaints about.
I'll be focusing on this for the forseeable future.
A few brain cells and a couple of hours with a primer are all that is needed to understand the basics of bidding and tactical play, after which a lifetime's enjoyment can be yours!
And the cards are really good quality.
This hits the table several times a week, we never tire of it.
I guess I would have to say it's my desert Island game of all time.
Thematic, fast, fun, strategic.
Pry it from my cold, dead hands if you can!
Takes a few rounds to discover the hidden strategies, but this game has amazing staying power.
Our gaming group played this for over a year everyday at lunch.
We discovered new strategies daily.
Even when you may have a seemingly lousy hand you can still have fun 'advertising' laying out cards to support the chief's trump suit in hopes of being picked as the chief's partner.
Or even better, win the chief's favor and hopefully his partnership by cancelling out the vice with matching cards.
